Naturally, my next step would be to speak with the provider to see if he or she can accommodate the double schedule without rescheduling patients. If, for any reason, the provider cannot accommodate the scheduling for that day, I would work with the front office staff to start calling patients, rescheduling them for another day to minimize the providers work load. …show more content…
Assessing the situation by urgency and prioritizing appointments accordingly is a best practice. An example of an urgent situation would be if the patient must attend this doctor’s appointment for a Post Op appointment, if they are in severe pain, or if the patient is in need of medications. One can generally expect to have some patients that are just simply unwilling to compromise, which is understandable. For such patients, I would see if we could offer incentives to reduce the number of patients scheduled. I would check with the provider to see if we could waive the patient’s copayment for that visit or perhaps offer a small denomination gift
