Impact Of Technology On The Environment

Great Essays
Technology makes our lives easier but hurts the environment. When innovators create technology, many people use these products, which negatively impacts society. When people use more electricity than they need to, the vast amount of electricity being used affects the pollution and the environment, like when a computer is on for too long, it can burn out or slow down, which is expensive to fix. Old technologies have been hurting the environment. We use so much technology; it has negatively impacted the quality of water and air. Also, we use so much technology that has impacted climate change. However, there have been some shifts in technological innovations towards creating eco-friendly technology that will help the environment. Instead of wasting …show more content…
Conversely, the man-made electricity affected the environment and caused more damage towards global warming. For example, all the pollution from the technology causes the oceans to rise, which in turn can cause cities to be underwater. Once people started using solar panels, scientists saw that this could decrease the climate change and decrease the damages of the environment. On the other hand, people still use non-eco-friendly technology, which could ruin the environment. If people use eco-friendly technology like solar panels, it will help the environment and be economically cheaper. Since there is a problem with global warming and people are trying to find a way to prevent global warming to continue. Solar panels allow us to reuse resources like the sun to conduct electricity instead of wasting carbon dioxide or coal. In the article, Benefits of Renewable Energy Use, the author states:
“Human activity is overloading our atmosphere with carbon dioxide and other global warming emissions, which trap heat, steadily drive up the planet’s temperature, and create significant and harmful impacts on our health, our environment, and our climate.” (Union of Concerned

The less resources we waste, the less pollution we get. For example, if we use less coal or natural gas, the environment will not negatively impact our health. Since solar panel reuses energy from the sun, there has been less pollution in water or in air. While the sun is giving energy than coal or natural gas, the water is not affect from pollution, which means that the agriculture or drinking water is not affected. Electricity from natural gas or coal depends on the water resources so if there is a drought or heat wave, then electricity will be at risk. On the other hand, electricity is being reused and is from the sun so they do not depend on water as much. Solar panels can be located anywhere to get access to electricity. Once people have started using solar panels, the numbers from the statistics of pollution has decreased. However, people still use natural gas or coal to conduct electricity. Solar panels help the environment to prevent pollutions, which positively impacted the

Many ideas and inventions have been used to make the use of our resources more efficient. Using solar power is one way we are using energy that is already there to our advantage. It is becoming more affordable, easier to obtain, and more popular within the country. Just in the past eight years alone, incorporation of solar power has increased from 1.2 gigawatts to thirty gigawatts (“Solar”). To give an example of the impact this has, that is enough energy to power about 5.7 million households in America. Solar power is slowly becoming a more reasonable alternative to have because it is becoming more accessible. In the past six years, the cost of solar panels has gone down by about sixty percent…

It is predicted that by 2018 solar could be competitive with fossil fuels. It seems that utility-scale solar is the way to go. It produces lots of clean megawatts quickly and efficiently. Solar thermal plants use the sun’s energy to create steam that powers turbines to generate electricity. Solar thermal power is more efficient and 40% cheaper than power generated with normal solar panels. Marla Dickerson quotes Peter Darbee, president of Pacific Gas & Electric, “climate change is the greatest challenge that mankind has ever faced” (305). The world as a whole should strive to boost green energy and reduce greenhouse…

Another positive impact on country’s economy is that it affects country’s GDP. GDP is total value of goods and services produced in a country’s economy in a year. So, different goods and services produced in a country has an effect in GDP, and GDP affects country’s economy. In addition, Corona, Rua, and Miguel (2016) state that solar energy generates almost 1.5 time more production of goods and value added. Moreover, they mentioned that solar energy affects the domestic product more than other replaced sources used to generate electricity. These two statements conclude that countries that electricity, Gas and water supply sector has high percentage in GDP has good economic condition in general. Also, Corona, Rua, and Miguel (2016) gave an example of how using solar power in Spain affects Spain’s GDP. The authors mentioned that almost half of the good and services and value added depends on Electricity, Gas and water supply sector that impacts the GDP in a positive…

Moreover, renewable energy is a natural process, meaning the energy will be sustainable as it will never run out. Fossil fuels emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, causing global warming. In the United States, 29 % of the global warming emissions come from the electricity production after burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas (Inventory, 2018). As opposed to fossil fuels, the majority of the renewable energy sources produce little to no global warming emissions. Solar energy can generate electricity in solar cells without releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. By implementing these clean energy solutions, health could be improved as most of the health issues related to air and water pollution would disappear due to the fact that solar, wind and hydroelectric system don’t produce any contaminated agents. According to one Harvard study the life cycle costs and public health effects of burning coal could be estimated at $74.6 billion every year (Epstein et al,…

Although the negative are nothing compared to the positives, I will explain the downsides of solar energy first. Currently, the prices of highly efficient solar cells are exuberantly expensive, they can be above $1000 for just a single panel, and most households will most likely need more than one. This makes the initial installation of solar panels very costly and could take years to overcome this cost. Moreover, solar energy is thought only to be able to generate electricity during daylight hours. If this is indeed true, that means for around half of each day, solar panels are not producing energy for your home. Also, the weather can affect the efficiency of solar cells. With these negative aspects of solar energy, there are some very obvious…

One of the argued points is that it will potentially take over two decades for the world to transition from the use of emissions gas, to the use of clean and renewable energy. Some may say our nation is racing time and we are losing, and others may say that we are not even trying to fight. With that being said, other individuals and companies around the globe have taken the initiative to fight and reduce their carbon footprint in hopes that maybe they will gain some control over the climate crisis. Electric companies and construction companies are taking action in promoting solar and or electric powered utilities. According to the Solar Industry Data,“ there are now over 22,700 MW of cumulative solar electric capacity operating in the U.S., enough to power more than 4.6 million average American homes”( Solar Industry Facts and Figures , N/A). Solar panels are not the cheapest alternative, they use the suns energy to keep their indoor and outdoor utilities functioning properly and save families money in the…
