Argumentative Essay: The Economics Of Climate Change

Michael Pollan made it clear that fossil fuels are very important to farming because it makes farming so much more easier (53). Farmers use it so much, it is almost as if our food is made of fossil fuels. However, there’s a huge consequence that comes with this ease. It is called climate change. Climate change is a natural thing, but today it is a big threat than it had ever been before, all because of agriculture and many other human activities (Stern, “What is the economics of Climate Change?”). They involve the usage of huge amounts of fossil fuels. To prevent climate change from getting worse, more farmers need to use renewable energies, like solar energy, to grow their crops.

Although, using solar energy does not prevent climate change all together as their are many other factors that contribute to it, it is one way the effects of climate change can be decreased. Just like NASA’s online article stateshad said, “carbon dioxide is released through natural processes such as respiration and volcano eruptions and through human activities such as deforestation, land use changes, and burning fossil fuels. If climate change is not dealt with properly, it can negatively impact agriculture in the future. This is because when climate changes, it can make the domestication of some animals harder because certain animals do well in certain temperatures and environments . The same goes for plants ("Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture May Be Underestimated"). Some plant and animal species may even go extinct as a result of climate change. This also directly affects the jobs of farmers who work hard to provide us with food, as they are the ones who grow crops and domesticate animals.
