Leadership is a very respected attribute in today's society. Many people strive to one be be one of the "Big Whigs" of a company or organization some day. What is a leader and what do they do? We were given the task of answering that question in this paper. A leader is someone who leads or commands a group, organization, or country, and leadership is simply the act of using the authorities over the groups mentioned previously. Psychologists have condensed leadership to 3 main types of leaders. Each of these styles have their own strengths and weaknesses. The first type of leader is the democratic leader. These leaders often care about the inputs of their subordinates, but the ultimate decision at the end of the day is up to the democratic leader. These leaders typically have content subordinates because they feel wanted; therefore, they …show more content…
On the contrary democratic leaders tend to struggle with a time restriction because decisions take so long to make. A good example of such a leader would be Steve Jobs. The next type of leader is the Laissez-faire style. These leaders leave almost all the decision making to the subordinates. They give independence to the workers to manage workload, and the leader doesn't closely manage the staff. Such a style is very good at making the staff feel important; however, there is a risk in loss of productivity from the staff. This style could also look as though the manager is lazy. President Theodore Roosevelt was a good example of such a leadership style in regard to the Panama Canal. The third and final style is the autocratic leader. The autocratic leader makes nearly all decisions and generally ignores input from his subordinates. They dictate everything about a particular job. Such a
