Problem in question can be observed mainly in hospitals and acute care settings, however, it can also be observed in any place that provides patient care with nurses or certified nursing assistants (CNAs). The problem in question can be observed at change of shift.

Upon discharge patients may be given a survey where they rate their hospital stay including overall satisfaction. If patient satisfaction is not in the top category hospitals may not be reimbursed financial aid for the patient care they provided. Another important reason that patient satisfaction is significant, is because when patients are satisfied with their care they are likely to refer future patients to that facility.
The proposed solution to determine if bedside shift report improves or decreases patient satisfaction is to determine if patients are informed about bedside shift report. Providing education about the benefits, as well as informing patient that they can interject, correct an update nurses during shift report is an important aspect of completing bedside shift report.
