“Hey man pay attention! You almost made me spill my coffee.” It seems like everywhere I go people have their heads down looking at their smart phones. They remind me of zombies just mindlessly walking, and mumbling to themselves something unrecognizable to the human ear. Technology has come a very long way in such a short amount of time. I have seen my era change from a record player to an iPod that holds thousands of songs. Cellular phones have also changed to be more practical with the times. They’re small enough to fit right inside your pocket, and we rarely see people without them. The internet provides you with almost any piece of information you want and need. It is accessible 24 hours a day seven days a week. All it takes is putting a couple of key words in a search bar and whamo! You are off to the races. This new age of technology has ushered in a different way of thinking, living, communicating, and even loving. Even though technology has lifted us to that next level, it has stunted our growth as human beings. According to an article titled “Addicted to Media “by theworldunplugged.wordpress.com states “Students around the world repeatedly used the term addiction to speak about their dependence on media. They supported that word choice with telling analogies and metaphors that made explicit the depths of their distress.” (Shaw)
