Ryan and Tippins (2004), acknowledges in their article “Attracting and Selecting: What Psychological Research Tells Us,” that there remains a gap in human resources practice and the research that has been completed. In the article they explain, 4 areas where the research they have reviewed can provide a breakdown of what works and what does not work, explaining what selection tools work, what recruitment strategies work, how selection-tool relates to the workforce, and what staffing and recruiting process lead to positive applicant perceptions (Ryan and Tippins, 2004). In order to show what selection tools work a chart table was created that indicates the prediction of job performance, the cost, and the difference of race and gender for each tool. Another table shows select research for recruiting and the practical application towards applicants. The research findings to explain common practices to advert impact and its degree of support for practice in literature are demonstrated in another table.
