The focus of this essay will be about how Greek mythology is still being used in today’s culture. “Myths symbolize human experience and embody the spiritual values of a culture. Every society preserves its myths, because the beliefs and worldview found within them are crucial to the survival of that culture” (Rosenberg xiii). Many times mythologies are ancient stories passed down from generations to keep the children aware of dangers, heroic events and answer to their purpose in life. Mythologies throughout time has provided people with a way to express an things in an creative way and this has allowed society to inspire themselves, learn about the ancient history and created into movies using technology. Even though these mythologies are only saying half the truth, they allow people to express things that can’t be explained by logic.
One of the biggest ways mythology has helped society is how they have allowed us to have an ideal figure to strive for such as, Hercules who is a classic heroes with incredible strength and the powers of a demigod. “Hercules is honored and admired as someone who repeatedly fought against and conquered evil during his lifetime, a great demigod (fathered by Zeus himself) doing gloriously good deeds” (Diamond 1). The children who listen to these stories are perhaps inspired by the heroes and decide to pursue their own path to success.
