Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. More than 38,000 blood donations are needed everyday. The American Red Cross has been around since 1881 when Clara Barton founded it. Clara began to bring supplies to the battle field to help the soldiers. She saw there was a need to help soldiers, and since then the Red Cross has been helping people everyday. The founding of the American Red Cross has helped by helping with blood supply, disasters, and our country with health and safety.

They have over 100,000,000 volunteers and employees. Clara Barton was the founder. She ran it for over 20 years. Clara was the main reason it kept running back in that day. The American Red Cross was designed to help people. Every year they offer aid to millions of people. Giving blood, food, clothes, and other supplies is just one way they help victims. They even established a blood collection service in 1948 to further help others. Also, they are the only congressionally mandated organization to provide aid to disaster victims. This means it is very important that they get support for what they do, and to keep the organization running. The Red Cross has always been a non profit organization striving to help others. They do not receive any funding from the government. The organization is only run on donations from the public. Being led by only volunteers, they need many donations. They even work in partnerships with other organizations that help disaster victims. There is 1,300 local chapters of volunteers working for the Red Cross. One thing the American Red Cross is known for, is providing assistance. When disaster strikes, there is a lot of problems that need help. The Red Cross provides financial assistance, medication, and tools to help solve these problems. A big part of their help is that they give food, health and mental health services. In the event of a big disaster, they distribute funds and goods raised or donated by the government. The great part about the organization is that they give long term assistance which can be useful in big disasters. The Red Cross responds to a variety of disasters. They respond to fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous material spills, accidents, and explosions. They are mostly known by the public for helping with floods, fires, earthquakes, and droughts. They are constantly busy because these disasters are everyday things.
