The first event that made the 1876-1900 era important to America was the invention of the light bulb. The light bulb was never really “Invented” but when Thomas Edison had made his version, it had outdone any other design at the time. Instead of using carbonized linen or cotton he used bamboo in his filament that made it last for more than 1200 hours The first real invention was in 1840 and was re-invented many times throughout the years but was truly “Mastered” in 1879 by Thomas Edison. The invention of the light bulb has given Americans the ability to work longer hours than just while the sun was out, and without the risk of using candles or oil lamps. The foundation of the the Red Cross had started in Genova, Switzerland in 1863 by the Geneva Public Welfare Society. There was a huge international conference that had 16 nations attend. At that conference they had decided to create the Red Cross to look into ideas dealing with the protection of sick and wounded soldiers during combat. Although the Red Cross had not started in America, Clara Barton was the one who had brought it to America. In the 1800s The Red Cross had started national blood donation service which is still active today. The Red Cross has affected America by responding to an average of 70,000 disasters nationwide yearly. The Red Cross had not started in America but proved very useful for our
