Attending high school and then going on to college is what some people do in their lives. Going through these transitions gives you many emotions and responsibilities which can be exciting but challenging at the same time. Growing up we all think that we want to get out of high school as soon as possible because college is going to give you more freedom. That’s not the case, high school and college have some similarities but they also have many differences that you wouldn’t expect. High school is more structural and mandatory where in college you have more personal freedom and it 's optional. According to the NCES website, “20.5 million students are expected to attend American Colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.2 million since fall 2000.” In High school, you go every day of the week for 6 hours and you have a set schedule. College you make your own schedule based on the classes you sign up for. You choose if you want to have a class during the day, night or online. College class hours are different, they can range from 50 minutes to 4 hours and usually, you don’t get 5-minute passing time like in high school. When you enter your class in high school your teacher usually takes attendance but in college, that’s not the case. Teachers don’t care if you decide to show up for class, you make the decision to go to class or miss. One thing that I noticed as big difference in the two is independence.
