The connection between the foods we eat and our health is undeniable. In order to make healthier and more sustainable food choices, I conducted a two-days experiment to record and keep track of everything I ate. Through the experiment, I am able to examine how much I eat of a certain type of food and how could I improve my eating habits with healthier food choices that I can actually incorporate in my everyday life. To maintain a healthy body weight and optimize the energy level, I know a male should consume about 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day. However, I am quite surprised that I just met the minimum average required calories for both of the days. As the most important meal of the day, consuming enough nutrient helps to refuel our bodies a lot. Since I like to have cereal in the morning because it is fast, easy, and inexpensive, choosing the one that with more fiber and relatively high in protein is important. Adding fruits into the cereal is also one of the great options to increase nutritional value. On the second day, I chose a hot chocolate and a nonfat yogurt that was topped with crunchy granola and contained berries in it to be my breakfast. Even though there was a boost of nutrient, I would still change the hot chocolate into a fruit juice to have an even more balanced and healthy breakfast. Based on a 2000 calorie pattern’s daily food plan from the website ChooseMyPlate, I found out that I did not consume enough vegetables but too much sodium intake. Adding more fruits and vegetables such as salad, beans and peas into daily meals would definitely benefit my health and make me feel energized.
