Proper diet and nutrition is one of the most essential components to being healthy and living a long life. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well we take care of our bodies. A proper diet must be approached with balance, variety, and moderation. I used the application MyFitnessPal to help me track my food and beverage intake. Based on my current weight and the fact that I want to loose around 20 pounds the app allowed me 1,520 Calories a day and would adjust my Calories based on how many steps I took that day and exercises I recorded. My sodium was low at 868mg and my cholesterol was also low at 214mg. The only thing on Thursday that was kind of high was my sugar and that is because of all the fruit I had that day. However, on Friday my Calories, sodium, fat, and saturated fat were well beyond what they should have been. The most disturbing of those was the amount of sodium I consumed which was 3,071mg. Shocked by that number I looked back at what I ate that day and 2,956 mg of sodium came just from me eating out for lunch and dinner. My sodium was high again on Saturday and the only reason my Calories didn’t go over my recommended amount was because I did not eat much that day. They are pretty good at having foods entered from restaurants and I also like that they allow you to use their barcode scanner to automatically enter the food in for you. The only thing I believe they could improve on is the exercise feature of the application. It is difficult to gage what the mean by their intensity ratings and what I consider to be my intensity ratings. Also, It only counts the steps that it records you taking while you are holding your phone. I tried to connect my fitbit and the app would not display my total step and Calories burned from those steps. I ended up having to do the math myself and use the fitbit app as well as
