Patient's 24-Hour Diet Recall Report

When looking at my patient’s 24-hour diet recall I noticed many trends. According to SuperTracker, the target number of grains is 6oz per day. While analyzing my patients’ meal record, I noticed SR consumed 7 oz. of grains, which exceeds the recommended limit per day. My patient also had a high intake of vegetables by an extra cup. The target value is 2 ½ per day. SR ate an appropriate amount of fruits and protein, but was under in dairy. She consumed 2 ¼ cups of fruit and 6 oz. of protein. This was within ¼ cup and ½ oz. of the targeted value. The target amount of dairy is 3 cups. My patient consumed 2 ½ cups, which considered her as being under the nutritional requirement. One concerning piece of information I found was the amount of calories offered in my patients’ meal. In order for an average person to maintain a healthy body weight and eating habits they should consume around 2,000 calories per day. While also being under in Vitamin D and E, She exceeded her recommended daily intake of saturated fats and cholesterol (“Food Tracker,” 2014).
A recommendation I would strongly suggest is to cut down on the amount of food given during meals. My patient consumes between 75-100% of her meals each day and was still over in the appropriate calorie range. This concerns me that the facility is having problems with appropriate distribution between the food groups. Reducing the amount of food given at each meal would help limit the amount of calories obtained and would also decrease the amount of refined grains and vegetables offered.
