Food And Beverage Analysis Essay

Food and Beverage Analysis I was asked to track 9 days of my meals throughout this semester to view my caloric, fat, and other eating habits. These 9 days were spaced out into 3 consistent days every two weeks, using different days of the week. This was to find trends, deficiencies, or habits among the way I eat. The base line was used with my weight, activity, BMR, age, gender, and height. The following is a good analysis is a good representation of my eating habits and how I should improve them.
Over the first 3-day period, my average caloric intake was 1,910 calories. Based on my basal metabolic rate, 1,503 calories, I was over by 398 calories. Of these 398 calories, 128 of them were due to added sugars, which was still within my limit of 150 calories for sugars. Saturated fats added 256

The limit for saturated fats was also 150 calories, putting me almost twice my limit. In order to have a better understanding of the overview of these three days, I must take into consideration that I was still in my sophomore year of high school, thus eating only what was available to me. Under the food category of oils, I was over my target by 1 teaspoon. Looking at my day-to-day ratio, I was over my target by 4 teaspoons, being attributed by the caesar salad and salad dressing. Day two, I had a 2-5 ration, where I was under. On day 3, I was 1 teaspoon over, being possibly attributed to the oil in the mayonnaise of the BLT, which I did not eat. The mayonnaise put me over my target for oils, which if it was not added, I would have been in the ‘OK’ range. Under the category of proteins, I was under my target by 1.5 ounces. On day 1, I was on target where as on days 2 and 3, I was below average. This can be attributed to the fact that only on day 1 did I eat lunch and dinner. However, although my iron was low due to a lack of protein in my diet, I had a consistent amount of iron. To raise my amount of

So, in order to increase my intake of folate, obviously a multivitamin would help a lot but some foods rich in folate include asparagus, broccoli, citrus fruits, avocado and brussel sprouts. So, consuming more of these would higher my intake of folate too. Vitamin b12 (Cobalamin): For this vitamin during my 3-day intake, I consumed a total of 3.02 ug with the DRI recommending only 2.40 ug per day. I consumed 126% of the vitamin which is over the 100% mark so it would be in my best favor to keep taking the multivitamin but also since I am a little over, to reduce the amount of red meat I eat which contains an abundant amount of vitamin…

I had already eaten over the target goal for added sugars by the end of lunch. The vegetable chicken noodle soup is what really sent my sodium levels over the top. With the two cups of soup that I consumed, I also put over 1500 mg of sodium into my body. I would not have thought that soup would have such a high sodium content. Additionally, my nutrients report said that I 35% of my consumed calories were from fat.…

Meal planning was the least of my concern this week so that hindered my eating pattern significantly. My diet is very different on the weekdays compared to the weekends. For me, having a routine helps with my eating patterns, but on the weekends I am out of routine, and sleep more frequently which negatively affected my meals. Since I sleep in on the weekends I normally don’t have breakfast, or contain adequate water intake. I also eat out more on the weekends if my boyfriend comes in town or if I go…

Finally, about 3 hours later around 11:00 pm I have a small snack, making sure I am eating more than 2 hours before I plan on going to bed to avoid developing GERT. Finally, I also observe that my caloric distribution is the highest at dinner after I have had a long day of activity because I tend to be the hungriest. Depending on the day, I tend to consume either the least amount of calories at lunch or breakfast. In reality, it would be wiser for me to consume my highest amount of…

According to nutritiondata.com, I was recommended to eat 2,369 calories a day. I did not meet my recommended calorie count on any of the three days I recorded, which means I also did not meet my estimated daily energy expenditure. I believe I did not meet my recommendations because I held a belief that 2,000 calories should be a limit to your food intake. However, in my case, the website says eating 2,369 calories a day would maintain my current weight. On Day 1 (13 October), I met all macronutrient (carbohydrates, fats and protein) ranges.…
