The United States Most Controversial Amendment
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." As everyone knows the second amendment from the U.S. Bill of Rights is by far the most misunderstood, controversial constitutional right. Many politicians, pro-gun activist, and anti-gun groups all have been at odds trying to figure out what the founding fathers meant when they created this amendment. Here recently and from the past few years, firearm shootings have become an outrage. Many anti-gun lobbyist believe in order to stop these mass shootings, gun restriction laws must be enforced. However, pro-gun activist and other organizations like the National Rifle Association say gun restriction laws would actually encourage more mass shootings and would dramatically increase crime rate. I happen to agree with the pro-gun activists who fight for the second amendment based on some past experiences that I have confronted. In addition to the second amendment debate, open carry and concealed carry laws have also been a part of this discussion. This is what I want to be the main focus of this paper-- the right to carry a firearm.
