Congress should support gun control laws because it if they do, then innocent people will stop dying in mass shootings. Most people say that people will just find other ways to hurt people, which is true, but it won't be with a firearm, which is the most used weapon in mass shootings. Also, 62% of all people and 42% of Republicans believe that having background checks on gun purchases will help reduce gun violence. Having background checks on gun purchases will help with knowing whether or not a person is eligible and responsible enough to own a gun. In consequence, the Constitution should be revised to include more restricted laws.
Congress should also support gun control laws because if they do, then the laws would be adjusted to fit more modern times. People that oppose to Congress supporting gun control laws would say that they have the right to own a gun. The age that you can legally own a gun in North Carolina is 18 years old, that’s pretty young. Did you know that there have been 11 mass shootings committed by men ages 21 or younger, and many young people ages 18 to 20 commit violent crimes with handguns, then they do with assault rifles. Most people believe that changing the age limit will not change anything, but people 18 to 20 years old commit four times more homicides than adults ages 21 and older.
