Personal Narrative: A Humorous Day

It was 5am in San Marcos de Colon, Honduras and we woke up to the sound of the rooster crowing. Kayla, my roommate, and I decided to head down to the courtyard, where the kitchen is to see if Gina had started the coffee. As we walked down the stairs, we saw our principal, Brother Davis, was writing down out itinerary for the day. We headed straight for the delicious soul-warming coffee. As we enjoyed our coffee, Kayla and I watched as our fellow classmates started to wake up. Every few minutes one would walk slowly down the stairs and into the courtyard and have a seat. After about an hour, all 25 students and 5 adults were in the courtyard waiting for breakfast to start. As we waited, Brother Davis gave us a brief overview of our day. He told …show more content…
Each face was filled with absolute joy. I have experienced joy before, but never has it been so raw and real. Only a few of my classmates ended up on the ground from the trick plays the boys were whipping out. I took a few moments to enjoy the happiness that these kids got from knocking down a 17-year-old American. As I walked over to my friends putting bows in these girls’ hair, I was able to witness a boost of self-confidence by a simple ribbon. Once each and every girl had a bow, they started a game of pato, pato, ganso, more commonly known as duck, duck, goose. Oh the joy I experienced in such a simple game! I only played a couple of rounds before moving onto my next …show more content…
Davis, an older woman, and what looked to be her daughter. As I got closer I could hear what Matt was saying. He kept repeating the same phrase over and over. It wasn’t until I was up close until I realized what he was doing. The 94-year-old woman could not hear well, if not at all. Matt kept saying, “Jesus can heal you because He loves you.” Each time he said it, Stephanie was not too far behind saying, “Jesús puede curará porque te ama.” Matt then continued to share the story of the blind man in John 9. Jesus approaches the blind beggar and rubs mud over the man’s eyes. When the man washes the mud off of his face, he is able to see. After sharing that story, Matt asked the woman if she would like to accept Jesus into her heart. She agreed and Stephanie, Matt, Brother Davis, and Mario prayed over the woman. I stood there feeling a state of comfort as this woman called out to be healed. It was pure and raw. Something I had only heard about or seen in a movie or on TV. But here I was in person watching a woman call out to her Father. As they continued to pray, I returned to my original

Pacing back and forth, I pondered how our volleyball fundraiser was going to stay afloat. The council was distraught, unable to acquire more teams, with the tournament in two days. With our advisors and the vice principal leaning towards canceling the event, my council had two choices: get eight more teams to sign up or call off the event. I didn’t want to cancel because I knew that as Junior and Senior year approached, we needed more money to fund our proms and class trips.…

I am aware that you do not know much about Christianity, but each of these stories represent rebirth, renewal, and redemption of mankind through Christ. The Healing of the Paralytic tells of Jesus healing a paralyzed man after seeing his faith. Christ and Peter Walking on Water tells a story of Peter (another follower of Jesus) sinking into the water when his faith wavers only to be saved by Jesus. The Woman at the Well describes Jesus interacting with a Samarian woman considered lesser. He broke several cultural laws to redeem her through faith, but it did not matter to him.…

At the age of twenty, what girl would even think about her boyfriend proposing? I know that every girl dreams of her wedding day, how it would look, and the way it would turn out. Planning a wedding is not an easy task like everyone thinks it is. Planning my wedding involved three main things; the date for the wedding, the type of dress that I would wear, last but not least, would be the type of venue I was going to have. Another main important thing is, where it would take place.…

As the loud clanging of the bell resounded in my ears students stampeded for the door, class finished for the day. Having few friends at Captain Shreve High School, I spent the majority of my afternoons at my friend Stephen’s house. Stephen stood an inch taller than I at five-foot four with disheveled chestnut hair sewn with blonde highlights. As he was not from Shreveport, he didn’t have anyone he trusted, or knew for that matter, leading us to become tremendously close throughout middle school, and as I had no siblings, we had become as brothers. Though we now attended different schools, we vowed to always be there for one another.…

It was a scorching summer afternoon around three o’ clock PM at J.D Redd Park. I was anxiously waiting in third base for the batter to approach the plate and smack the yarn covered ball just enough for me to make it to the home plate. As the sun hits my face I see the pitcher retract his right arm getting ready to throw it. As I see the ball leave the pitcher’s hand, I breathed in the humid air, making preparations to sprint as fast as I could and make it to the home plate. Before I could even gather my thoughts the ball departed from the pitcher’s hand and into the bat of one of the members of my team.…

Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits. Although now, I wish my mother would restrict some of the things I wore.…
