In many instances in the Book of Mark, many see Jesus as the suffering messiah, but they do not know what it will mean to fulfill that description of Jesus. It is only until Mark 15, where Jesus dies, that most people connect this him as being the suffering messiah to God. This is seen when the centurion finds out Jesus is the son of God: “When the centurion who stood him saw how he breathed his last he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!” (Mark 15:40). The Book of Mark centers around Jesus’ actions through his miraculous healings towards the sickly, or feeding the hungry. Another example of Jesus’ destiny being exemplified is in Mark 10:45: “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” In Mark 16, when Jesus rises from the dead, he tells the disciples to go to the people to tell them about the word of the suffering servant and messiah: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:45). People who believe in Jesus without witnessing his actions, in return receive the care and healing of Jesus Christ himself. There are many times in Mark in which it is exemplified what does it mean to follow Jesus. When exactly following Jesus, we are to believe in him and nothing else, and to be focused on his doings. This is seen in Jesus’ disciples, who put their care and thought into him, as well as the sickly and poor who believe Jesus can help them. With the sickly and poor, they do not have to be convinced of Jesus’ powers by looking at him, but only to believe the great things he is said to do. To believe something exactly is to think it is true without hesitation. When something is shown to you, and you believe it, that is only believing with having evidence. The former definition of believe that was mentioned is “believing without seeing.” The ones who do this are the ones who are cared by Jesus. An example of this is seen in the story of the women with a hemorrhage in Mark 5: “She had heard about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak. She said, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” Immediately her flow of blood dried up” (Mark 5:28-30). Since the woman with a hemorrhage believes the rumors of Jesus, as Jesus walks beside her, she touches him, which heals her. Jesus finds out that the woman did this, and tells her that it was her strong belief
