“With great power comes great responsibility” being the oldest of nine I have an abundance of both responsibility and expectations to uphold. One thing that was stressed was the importance of giving back to those that come after me. Over the last three years I have done many things that help those around and in my community. The people in the areas and community showed me that I should not allow my excuse to disable me and give back as much as possible whether it's with time or

At Xavier University we believe in the “All for One and One for All” philosophy; showing that camaraderie and equality among all are still possible. One way Xavier lives up to its support for students is through the one-year long Smooth Transition mentoring program. I served as a smooth transition mentor to three incoming first-year students during the 2016-2017 academic year. In order to ensure that they have a successful first year at Xavier, I informed them about the resources Xavier University provides, including the writing center, mathematics lab, tutoring services, Ohio link, and much more. I also advised them to make good decisions and form relationships with people who would motivate them to succeed.…

At the center of the waiting area, there’s a water fountain made out of Jazz instruments, such as trumpets, saxophones, clarinets, and flutes. I think that featuring a gospel worship song once a month is a great idea. However, I would take it a step further and also add an international worship song along with a gospel song. On the pamphlet that you gave us about CCLI it stated that “CCLI encourages worship within churches throughout the world” and “CCLI serves over 250,000 churches, schools, and other ministries and organizations in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, South America, South Korea, Europe and the U.S.”. If you also add an international worship song on the website, it will help to diversify worship music around the world which will help unify the body of Christ.…

When I visited Mexico two summers ago, I realized that, regardless of someone’s hard work and dedication, they are still neglected the opportunities they clearly deserve. “Hello sir,” the kid mumbled, “would you like some gum?” I was completely perplexed. Why would a kid of such a young age, around six or seven, be in the streets during a school day? Although I had read about children working in the streets during my social studies classes, this seemed different.…

The Middle Ages were a time of diversity in music. During this era, religious and secular were considered the two main types of music that can be dated back to the creation of man. They were, and are, two very distinctly different aspects in some respects, while actually being modestly unnoticeable in the many changes it has undergone throughout history. This allows for the adaptation of music to attune the interests and tastes of various people; thus creating a sense of agreement and harmony. Religious music was the music and songs of the religion and was tied to worship and prayer; and although it was not specifically used as a form of entertainment, it has indeed kept people entertained and empowered by their beliefs and faiths.…
