The topic of my disease diary is Diabetes Type 2. In the following report I will talk about the characteristic of diabetes, the causes and symptoms, what happens chemically, the treatment of the disorder and how the relationship to other body systems is. In general Diabetes is a long-term disease, what means the patient has to handle his whole life with the disease. Diabetes mellitus Type 2, also known as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes, is an illness of the metabolism, what means it interrupts the ability to use glucose and the human needs glucose for the carbohydrate digestion.…
When it comes to diabetes mellitus, the hormone involved is insulin, secreted by pancreas, which is absorbed by the cells in our body as a message to use glucose present in the blood. When pancreas is unable to secrete insulin or when the cells in our body develop resistance to insulin, the glucose in the blood will not be utilized. This is known as diabetes mellitus. In those who are suffering from diabetes insipidus, excess urination results in increasing the concentration of salts or electrolytes present in the body. This is known as hypernatremia.…
Section D: Solution Description The proposed solution in the evidence-based practice (EBP) project is the plan to overcome an identified problem. It should be reasonable and accomplishable within the time frame and the budget constraints. The evaluation of the outcomes should be quantifiable by the empirical evidence (Roberts & Yeager, 2004).…
The urinary tract infection scenario was focused on a 78 year old female newly diagnosed with urosepsis. The scenario addresses the client centered concepts related to multiple diagnoses, early signs of shock, and Buck’s traction. The client has a congestive heart failure and diabetes but she came to the Medical Surgical department with urosepsis. Urosepsis is a severe infection of the urinary tract which is more common in women than in men, and also more likely to occur in the elderly or people who have weakened immune systems or conditions such as diabetes. The most common determinant of urosepsis is obstruction to free flow of urine which may quickly lead to severe sepsis.…
Questions for Medical Nutrition Therapy: A Case Study Approach 5th ed. Case 8 – Gastroparesis 1. Identify the major physiological controls for gastric emptying. • Contraction and motility are major controls for gastric emptying involving autocrine, paracrine, and neuronal systems. •…
Symptoms includes high blood pressure, lots of sugar content in urine, and rapid dehydration. In addition, diabetes increases the risk of getting heart, eye, kidney, foot, and skin problems. One of the first known mention of diabetes symptoms is revealed by Chinese physicians, who noticed that diabetics’ urine smells sweet. In fact, the full name of the disease, diabetes mellitus, literally means “passing through honey sweet.”…
Diabetes is known to be a disease in which the body fails to produce or respond to the insulin hormone and is therefore seen as impaired and results in elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine. Diabetes is sometimes called “The Silent Killer,” but should also be known to his effects. Diabetes is the cause and the effects are to be many but especially Diabetic Neuropathy. Therefore, people should know the kinds of diabetic neuropathies, where the nerves are affected, and what their symptoms include. It is a really common and a serious complication of diabetes.…
I. Explanation Diabetes mellitus type I, Type I diabetes, T1D, insulin dependent diabetes, or juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disease, a form of diabetes mellitus where the body`s immune system mistakenly identifies the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas as foreign cells, hence, it attacks, and destroys them. As a consequence, the pancreas stops producing insulin, thus the body is unable to generate or use, and properly store glucose (a form of sugar that helps to create energy) in an efficient way. Therefore, glucose builds up in the bloodstream prompting levels of blood sugar to rise dangerously, which could damage eyes, kidneys, nerves, and the heart; if untreated diabetes type I can lead to coma or death. Ultimately, this…
Diabetes type 2 is a chronic condition in which insulin does not respond to high glucose levels in the blood. The insulin produced in the body has a resistance to the glucose. The pancreas may still produce insulin, but the insulin does not have the usual effect on cells. Diabetes affects people when there are high blood glucose levels, which lead to damage of blood vessels. This can lead to several complications including heart disease, kidney damage, nerve damage, eye damage and can cause blindness.…
The pancreas makes a hormone called insulin to help glucose get in the cells in the body. When someone has diabetes, your body can’t make enough insulin or it can’t use its own insulin as it should. This will then cause sugar to build up in the blood stream. Common symptoms of diabetes include, urinating often, Feeling thirsty, feeling very hungry (even though you…
to 5:00 a.m.). The symptoms that are hyperglycemia makes are; high blood glucose, high levels of sugar in the urine, frequent urination and increase thirst. There are ways that people can usually cut down their blood glucose levels and that’s mainly exercising. People generally go straight to their doctor and look for other ways to cut down fat, as exercising might not be option at this time.…
Diabetes Diabetes and oral diseases are very closely related. In fact, an alarming ninety three percent of diabetic individuals in the United States also have periodontal disease, according to Sindelar (2013, p. 56). Moreover, diabetes and periodontal disease have a bi-directional relationship; as in diabetes can have a negative effect on periodontal disease just as periodontal disease can negatively affect diabetes. Therefore, maintaining oral health and practicing good oral hygiene is extremely important for individuals with diabetes, to avoid complications with either disease.…
A chronic illness is a disease that persists for a long time. There are numerous chronic diseases in the world, many of which are the leading causes of death. At any time, 50% of the population has some sort of a chronic condition. My grandfather is a part of this population, and suffers from type 2 diabetes. Having a chronic disease impacts an individual’s life heavily.…
a. Hypertriglyceridemia: During the initiation of dialysis, disturbances of lipid metabolism are accentuated and contribute to cardiovascular complications (Smeltzer et. al., 2010, p. 1335) b. Hyperglycemia: with decreasing renal function, it takes longer for oral hypoglycemia agents to be excreted by the kidneys (Smeltzer et. al., 2010, p. 1223).…
The regulation of acid and pepsin secretion is associated with a balance of chemo-transmitters delivered to the gastric mucosa by pathways that facilitate stimulation and inhibition. The physiologic stimulation of acid secretion is divided into the cephalic, gastric, and intestinal. The main component of gastric secretion is HCL which is a product of the parietal cells. The parietal cells are epithelial cells that secrete HCL and essential factors. Parietal cells are located in the gastric glands in the lining of the fundus and in the body of the stomach.…
