You may not believe it, but a famous movie actress invented the idea of wifi! This was the actress Hedy Lamar. She was voted most desirable women by soldiers in the 1940s. She didn't want to be known for her looks, she wanted to be know for her brains also. So, Hedy Lamar invented frequency hopping. Frequency hopping is a secret communication used to guide torpedoes. She showed it to the Navy, but they told her it wouldn't work. She then watched in silence as other inventors took her invention to new heights. With phones, people can call, text, and surf the web anywhere in the world. You can always keep in touch with a family member by texting or calling. For example, I text my mom everyday when I arrive at my house because she is still at work when I get home. My family does not have to worry about me when I have my phone on me. They can always know where I am at all times. You can also use your phone to save a life. If an emergency happens, you can use your phone to call 911 to get help. If your ever lost, you can use your phone to see where you are, and how to get back home. You will never be lost again with your cell phone. The military can now communicate more efficiently with Hedy Lamar's idea of frequency hopping. Torpedoes can now be guided more easily and aimed adequately.
