According to the Scholastic Children’s Dictionary, the definition of freedom is “ The right to do and say what you like.” In America, everyone is given the freedom of speech, religion, petitioning, assembly, and press. Debates have been going on for the last few years whether or not citizens are really given all of these freedoms. In my opinion, the statement that all Americans are “free,” is not true. Yes, Americans do have some freedoms, but in my eyes freedom is controlled and only given to a certain extent.
The freedom of speech, for example, is the ability/freedom for an American to lawfully say whatever they want whenever they want. If Americans really had the freedom of speech then they could go straight up to a police officer tell the officer how they really feel and then walk away. There are specific laws that forbid

When America was prospering up as a young country, the whole idea was to allow people to be able to come to America with religious freedom and believe in whatever God/Gods they wanted. In the beginning, I believe that this was a great concept and that there was religious freedom. Nowadays I think that America is straying away from religious freedom. For example, if a muslim girl with a hijab attended an all white school, she would get multiple stares for being “different,” by praying all the time and wearing that “weird thing on her head.” This shows how controlled the religious freedom is in America. Additionally, if Americans really had religious freedom then I (a white Catholic girl) would be freely able to go to a jewish school. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Not all jewish schools would let me in due to how controlling schools are with freedom. These are both prime examples of how Americans are judged by their religion and these examples show how religious freedom is very confined and not truly a full
