Food is a common necessity of life. Humans cannot survive very long without it. What people put into their body, helps to fuel their body. Some people realize this and others do not. Many of the human population don 't understand how important it is to figure out what 's really in the food we consume daily, not just what the label tells us. Although food labels do mention everything that the food contains, many do not indicate one important thing: whether or not the food product was genetically modified or if it contains ingredients that were genetically modified. According to, a genetically modified organism (aka. GMO) is an organism whose genome has been altered by the techniques of genetic engineering so that its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there. A GMO can be created through genetic engineering in the biotechnology field when one organism’s genes or a specific gene is injected into another organism. This transgenic (meaning it has genes from another living source) organism then squires a specific trait to artificially enhance it. Genetically modified organisms can range from any plant or animal. Some of the most common GMO foods are: corn, sugar beets, soy, squash, zucchini, canola, milk (from cows), etc. Many of the foods that most people consume have been genetically modified.
