Euthanasia

Euthanasia is the termination of a very sick person’s life in order to relieve them of their suffering. A person who undergoes euthanasia usually has an incurable condition, but there are other instances where some people want their life to be ended. In a lot of cases, euthanasia is carried out at the person’s request but there are also times where the person may be to sick to make that decision and the decision is made by a relative, doctors or in some circumstances the courts, (www.bbc.co.uk). Ethical means dealing with morals or the principles of morality and being in agreement with the rules or standards for the right manner or practice, especially the standards of a profession, (www.dictionary.com). There are 4 types of euthanasia, voluntary, involuntary, indirect and assisted suicide. Voluntary euthanasia occurs at the request of the person who is ill and wants to end their suffering, involuntary euthanasia occurs when the person who dies chooses life and is killed anyway. This is usually called murder, but it is possible to imagine cases where the killing would count as being the best thing for the person who dies, they just do not see this. Indirect euthanasia means providing treatment which is usually to reduce pain that has the side effects of speeding up the patient’s death. But since the intention of indirect euthanasia is to not kill the person, this is seen by some but not all as morally acceptable. Lastly assisted suicide usually refers to cases…
