Improved Essays
As you requested, I am writing to share my past writing experiences which include what kinds of writing I have done in school, the feedback that I seek on my work before I turn in assignments, the memories that I have of writing, voluntary writing I have done, and much more.

Past Experiences with Writing

Previous to this course I have taken several mandatory English, Writing, and Literature courses in which I have gained experience that now impact the way I write. In high school, I took my basic English & Writing courses, along with an Advanced Placement English IV course, in which the teacher persuaded me to join the University Interscholastic League (UIL) and compete in the Ready Writing Competition, in which I won first place in the

Second, I ask one of my classmates or one of my friends to review it and see if there is anything I could change to possibly make it better. Finally, I submit my work to the Writing & Tutoring Center that the University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) has provided for us to use as a resource for our classes. Once I believe my work has been modified and made as great as it could possibly be, I turn it in.

Voluntary Writing

Not only do I enjoy reading poetry, but every now and then I write poetry for my own pleasure. I tend not to share any of my work with anyone, but I enjoy writing it anyways. I like to write over my past life experiences, my thoughts, my beliefs, and any other thing that comes to mind. The types of poems that I write vary from Acrostic, Haiku, and Free Verse. Nevertheless, when it comes to writing my own poetry, I tend to bend the rules and simply just write.

Expectancies from This Course

Being that this a Professional Writing course, my expectancies are very straightforward, such as bettering my writing skills to be able to convert my average writing into more of a professional writing. I expect to learn how to organize my writing and better how I deliver the message in my writing to my audience. Not only that but I also hope to be challenged in this course to simply better myself as a

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Throughout this last quarter, we have had the opportunity to write many different stories from the few prompts that we have gotten, and this is a good experience for us as young writers. I feel like I have learned a bit more than what I had previously known due to these prompts, but I also feel like I have become much more confident in my writing than how I have before because of the group readings that you have enabled us to do, and when you give us the chance to see what people really perceive and think about our writing, it’s a really liberating experience to read directly what people thought about your writing and have that direct feedback, to me, it invokes a real visceral feeling, to just hear what people thought of my writing is a genuinely great experience for anyone creatively and I thoroughly recommend it.…

I grew greatly in my writing over the course of this year. Previously, I wrote based on instinct and in the style to which I adjusted; since starting AP Language & Composition, I’ve developed a certain writing foundation and learned to write with a much more defined purpose. Before this course, I often tried to cover given topics to the best of my ability, but I struggled as I lacked enough of a background in the technical skill necessary for writing to successfully cover all of the bases. I did not recognize the variety of skill sets needed to write all the different genres that existed in the realm of writing; I just wrote in a consistent, similar style for each and every assignment I wrote, even if my style didn’t satisfy the requirements of that specific essay.…

I have never been a strong writer as I don’t have much creativity. I have a hard time coming up with ideas and I work better with facts rather than fiction. One of the things that I need to improve on is the process of idea formulation. The thought process for thinking of a thesis statement or a topic is a struggle for me. I relied on templates and researched quite a bit during College Composition 107 in order to make my work sound good.…
