During this course I learned that there will be times where a person has no choice but to make decisions with possible ethical concerns at some point in their career. Some decisions will be easy because the guidelines are clear and the matter itself is unfortunate but no harm will likely result. Others may be more difficult because the guidelines or circumstances are unclear and the wrong decision could carry consequences for others. An ethical dilemma arises in situations where a choice must be made between unpleasant alternatives. In the health care profession, there are a lot of ethical issues that was covered in the course. I learned that in the health care that it can be very complex, with many regulations, laws and standards of practice. Some of the ethical issues in the health care ranges from performing an abortion is legal, but may not be considered ethical by other health care professionals or members of the public at large, or when a decision must be made to turn off life-support machines and allow death to occur. Also other ethical issues can be confidentiality, relationships with patients and matters related to consent, especially in the treatment of minors. The doctor patient relationship is central to the practice of healthcare and is necessary for the delivery of high-quality health care in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
