Imagine you’re a college athlete that puts your body on the line and has had surgeries and medical bills are piling up, what do you do/ you’ve gotten a scholarship, but your scholarship money is very scarce and your parents have trouble paying your tuition, what do you do. College athletes are seen as athletes that are not always recognized for making their school’s sports program flow, not only are they going unrecognized they are doing it for free. When players get injured they go through extensive recovery therapy and surgeries that aren’t free, who pays for that? These athletes can not keep going unnoticed and surpassed. College athletes are basically living a double life, in the classroom then on the field, court or stadium whatever it may be.Therefore athletes should be paid to play while enrolled in school. This is necessary because many student’s parents can’t pay the money for their children to go to school. This is necessary because students would have less trouble finding the right living situation like living at home, in a dorm, or in their own apartment off campus. Due to NCAA rules, athletes have not been allowed compensation for their participation in college athletics. This rule has caused a great divide and debate within the collegiate sport world, especially with the recent exponential growth of college athletics. For instance, college sports critics Val Ackerman and Larry Scott argue “that college is ultimately about getting a degree and getting ready for life long after their playing days are over” supporting their claim that college athletes should not be paid (Ackerman and Scott). Opposing that view is the idea that college athletics offer exactly those benefits and more, which would be maximized with payment. As of right now, college athletes are being compensated through scholarships that average…

This is because of the myth of amateur athletes, Fans who think its wrong to be paying athletes frequently refer to the "free education" student-athletes receive and, indeed there is some value to what they learn on campus however the education is conditioned on their health and success which always comes second to athletics. If a student athlete is hurt or unsuccessful, the coaches and administrators suddenly discard the noble ideals of "education" and a player is left with nothing. Fans would no doubt feel differently about the issue if a student-athlete were in their own family. Moreover, no one mentions the lifetime of health care bills that await some student-athletes in contact sports. How can a "free education" compensate them for debilitating injuries caused during their time on campus?…

But is more evident that no time soon will colleges be paying student athletes, there are multiple reasons why it will not work. Although Reed Karaim makes some valid points the NCAA cannot pay all college athletes. It is clear that, in addition to their academic course loads, student-athletes’ physical conditioning, practice, travel and competition schedules make it difficult for many of them to take on part-time employment to supplement their institutional aid as do other students, but they took on that responsibility when they continued to compete; but student athlete’s should not be…

This quote is stating a prime reason why college athletes should not be paid; the athletes are already receiving money for playing a sport. Why do the athletes need a paycheck on top of thousands of dollars in scholarship money? Numerous college athletes are capable of receiving both athletic and academic scholarships. Many college students have a hard time just paying for a college level education, therefore it is simply unfair for the student’s who choose to go to college for education to not receive a high amount of money in scholarships as well if the athletes get paid on top of his or her scholarship (Block). The athletes should not receive any more treatment than going to college for free, if other students aren’t receiving any more money on top of scholarships as well.…

The topic has been discussed on numerous occasions on whether or not college athletes should be paid for playing sports for major universities. A lot of people feel that they should get paid for the hard work they do, while others such as myself say that they should not be paid. College students should not get paid due to the fact that they are already getting paid on scholarships, it hurts the school, and it doesn’t further their education. The first reason I feel that college athletes shouldn’t be paid is due to the fact that a lot of them are already having their education paid for due to scholarships. Now not every single college athlete gets a full scholarship but a lot of them do.…

The first reason why student athletes should be paid is because scholarships that NCAA give to students don’t always cover full expenses (Christopher Davis Jr / Dylan Oliver Malagrino 2013). Universities promise students 4 year scholarships when NCAA only give 1 year scholarships and at any moment take the scholarship back if injuries happen or encounter takes place. Some scholarships cover the classes, books, and maybe dorms but leave out food, transportation or health coverage.…

With the NCAA raking in on average $12 billion in revenues annually that flow in through college athletics programs, the actual athletes deserve some type of benefits other than leaving college breaking even because they don 't have to pay tuition. They need to be able to save up some money for when they depart from college to get their working life started. They put the same amount of time as people that work full time jobs, working 40 hours a week or sometimes even more. They put their bodies through so much having to deal with the workout programs to stay strong and the dieting programs to keep them fit and able to compete at the best of their ability. As stated in “When 's Payday for collegians?”, we should envision an arrangement where students-athletes receive labor law protections, competitive compensation, and more through medical coverage(Sanderson 2015).…

Universities across the country make millions of dollars every year from college athletics. However, student-athletes receive nothing except for college tuition and room/board in return, even though they are the foundation of the entire industry. This one-sided trend must not continue, for college athletes often struggle to pay for transportation, clothing, a place to live and food to eat, while the universities reap the rewards from their labors. College athletes should be paid money in some form as compensation for universities using their likeness and profiting from their athletic exploits. The first reason college athletes should be paid is that while playing sports for their schools they risk injury, and they lose time for studying which can affect their learning.…
