Essay On Becoming A Forensic Anthropologist

As the second oldest of four children, it was always a priority and expectation that I went to college. I am lucky enough to be more fortunate than others, but with 3 children all starting college in a span of four years my parents are not in a financial position to assist us. We were told that hard work and dedication would help us pay for college, and it has. However, there are always the costs you cannot plan for, such as a Chemistry laboratory fee or needing to pay a deposit on field trips for a general education course. The $500 award will help me pay for the different fees associated with being a student, and, especially in my sophomore year, will help pay for laboratory fees for my Biology and Organic Chemistry courses. These science courses are crucial not just for my Anthropology degree, but for my Plant Sciences degree. My goal is to become a Forensic Anthropologist, and I understand that it will take an incredible amount of time and effort on my part. During my undergraduate years, I am planning to attend a field school and participate in an internship at the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office. Currently, a field school that looks incredibly interesting to me is the SLAVIA program in Drawsko, Poland. To work at the site of a ceremonial burial ground would be extremely interesting to me. I would also get to go to a part of the world I have always wanted to go to. I also hope to attend an annual meeting for one of the anthropological associations. I think it would be a good way to meet people in the fields I am interested in, while also learning about current advances in anthropology. While I have not decided where I would like to attend graduate school, I am hoping my preparation will allow me to attend any school I apply
