There are ten main regulatory functions of the endocrine system. These ten functions consist of metabolism, food ingestion and digestion regulation, growth of tissue, maintains a pH balance within the body, stability of water within the body, adjusts heart rate and blood pressure, maintains blood glucose levels and other nutrients, oversees the functions of the reproductive system, controls contractions of the uterus during childbirth and stimulates breast milk, and aids in the effective of the immune system. The releasing and inhibiting hormones that are produced and released from hypothalamic neurons are the growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), growth hormone-inhibiting hormone (GHIH), Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), Prolactin-releasing hormone (PRH) and prolactiaen-inhibiting hormone (PIH). Thyroid hormones are so important to the body and targets almost every cell in the body. Thyroid hormones can alter the activities of their target tissues. If the thyroid gland secretes too little of the thyroid hormone a by lowering metabolism and if the thyroid gland secretes too much of the thyroid hormone, metabolism increases. When the thyroid gland does not secrete enough of the hormone, an individual can experience weakness, weight gain, as well as low blood pressure and low body temperatures. On the contrary, when the thyroid gland secretes an excess of the thyroid hormone, an individual can experience weight loss, stronger appetite and higher body temperature and heart
