Employee performance helps managers understand how effective they are managing the group that they are in charge of and how well the employees are adapting to their technique of management. A fundamental principle of effective management is that managers need their people more than those people need their manager. Broomfield shared his opinion on this matter by stating that if anyone wants to be successful in what they do then it is essential for them to surround themselves with people who also desire the same successes. As a manager, it is critical to find people who want to help reach the same end goals that the organization also want to attain. Broomfield demonstrated that he is not very keen on the word “power”. He does not believe that power is something that is necessary when working with others because, as he said about fairness, everyone is equal with one another and work together as one. Broomfield referred to the popular phrase that the group is only as strong as their weakest link when talking about power and influence. However, he added that he is not ambitious about the weakest link because that reveals that the top, or the manager, is not doing everything that they are meant to be doing in order to create successful opportunities for everyone. It seems that the social network seems to be more a reasonable force of power and influence for the managerial methods that Broomfield displays. The people who are included in Broomfield’s social network are his family, his employees at the fitness center, those who he coaches track and field with, and the athletes that he is in charge of for sport and fitness. Social networks are useful for managers to utilize because managers vary rarely can achieve success on their own. Managers require help from other people to assist the process of achievement.
