This week’s reading in, “Emotionally Intelligent Leadership,” was all about inspiration and being a good leader through inspiring others. This, personally, is an area where I have a lot of experience. When I was in high school I was the captain of my lacrosse year from sophomore to senior year. During this time of being captain I grew as a leader and learned many things about inspiring others. The main thing I learned, which the book also touched on a little bit, was that to effectively inspire others it is important to grow a relationship with them first and foremost. Everybody needs inspiration and motivation in different ways because we are not all the same person and our needs vary from person to person. Action I believe to be sort of a “practice what you preach” type of method to inspiring others; which reflecting back on my leadership on the lacrosse field I feel that I exemplified that through also doing what I told others to do to make the team better. Additionally, emotion and ideas, I feel, are aspects that got me to be captain in the first place.
