Team Captain Speech

I was super excited when the announcement about captains was posted on Facebook this year! I have been on the CVHS Swim Team for all four years of high school and I know that I have always put 100% effort into the team. My freshman year, I swam with a broken hand. Sophomore year it was a torn ligament in my knee. Thankfully, junior year didn’t hold any major injuries and I’m excited that going into my senior year of swim I am healthy and in tip top shape. I look forward to working hard on the team and earning a spot on the varsity team. Being captain my senior year would top off all the hard work I have put in the past four years and would be a great end to my high school swimming career. I embody the main qualities that make a captain - organization, dedication to the team, and enthusiasm about the sport of swimming.

It takes motivation and positivity as well the skill set to be a strong leader on the administrative side of things. Some of my favorite captains, Correll Maley and Amanda Leung, have wonderfully led the team and are both people I look up to. The captain should be someone who can support the team when they’re down and rally for them when they’re up. The captain should be someone who can handle the tasks that are required of them and who can work well with their other co-captains. The captain should also be someone who genuinely wants to lead, motivate, and have fun with their peers. To me the captain should be someone who the team can always count on, no matter what. I believe that I have all the qualities that I have explained in this letter. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be an organized, dedicated, and enthusiastic leader to the team that I have wanted to be captain for since I was a
