Over the years of being a police officer it often leads to many health issues such as heart diseases, high blood pressure, acid reflux, stomach ulcers, and an increase in weight. This is due to being inactive at work because throughout the day you sit behind the wheel of a police car going to calls. Since there behind the wheel all day driving from call to call it leads to them to eat convenient food that is quick inside the car such as fast food. As you can imagine over time this can be detrimental and begin to deteriorate the officer’s overall health and throughout a long career the officer’s health will cease to exist. If there are no prevention methods set in place not only can this lead to long term health problems but can accumulate with others problems the officers will face. If these problems keep adding up on top of each other eventually this boiling pot will explode and cause the officers to commit suicide. Simply adding physical fitness programs to your life as an officer can greatly reduce these risks because you’ll be active and able to maintain your health. This can be done by adding moderate aerobic exercise into their life for about an hour a day four days a week. Not only will this increase officer’s overall health it will increase their efficiency as officers because they will be in better shape and perform better in the line of duty. Looking at local agencies over time a lot of police officers gets out of shape and no longer seem fit for duty. It would be extremely beneficial if local agencies would be operated like the New Jersey State Troopers agencies and enforce minimum standards of
