Police officers’ jobs are very stressful and require a large amount of attention to detail. This attention to detail can be diverted when an officer is not fully prepared for duty. For example, when I am in the academy I must be fully prepped the night before in order to have my morning to get dressed and eat breakfast. However, if I do not shine my boots the night before I would need to shine them in the morning. This would shorten my morning and the potential for me to miss breakfast and as a result not perform in Physical conditioning as well. In addition, if uniforms are prepped the night before, I can focus on the task ahead in the morning. Therefore, it is important to be fully prepared for duty at all times. Again while in the academy, by not being prepared does not just affect me, but has the potential to affect the rest of my class. Such as, If I were to forget my duty belt at home or even in my locker. Personal safety is one of the most important aspects of a police officer’s job. Officers go through extensive training to detain suspects; therefore, officers need to be prepared to handle these situations. Preparation can entail studying the appropriate responses to situations, as well as being able to respond to fluid situations. IN addition to officers being prepared with their physical equipment every day, officers need to be mentally prepared every day. Like stated earlier, a police officer’s job is very demanding and officers must be prepared each and every day. However, if an officer is not mentally prepared they may not be able to handle day to day situations very well.
