Adults in charge of testing may have taken illegal drugs when they were in high school, so they might feel bad for students getting in trouble if the adults didn’t get in trouble when they were in high school (Brodsky and Burlingham).
Some schools require students to take and pass a drug test before they can join any extracurricular activities. Joining these activities may keep some students out of drugs or get them to quit. Drug testing may result in even unhealthier habits regarding drugs. People who already use drugs may turn to worse drugs that won’t show up on tests and they could even up harming their bodies. Another disadvantage of testing students is the question of fairness including caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes. Many people say that those are also drugs, so shouldn’t they be tested for too?
