High School Sports Persuasive Essay

Improved Essays
In the 21st century, it's common to know at least one person that does drugs, whether it be a friend or a family member. Among those people are athletes and high school students in general. Knowing this, I do not think high school sport players should be obligated to take regular drug tests. Playing a sport professionally and playing a sport for a high school are two different things. One big difference is that professional players make a lot of money, while high school players don't make any profit. Playing on a high school team is not that serious and there is no big money on the line, so why should high school athletes be required to take drug tests? Players in high school shouldn't be held up to all these regulations and standards that

The Ultimate Game Changer Recent studies have shown, “Most researchers estimate that 3 to 5 percent of high school age athletes and 5 to 15 of adult athletes use performance-enhancing drugs (mainly anabolic steroids). The level of anabolic steroid use among young athletes exceeds use of any drugs other than alcohol, nicotine, or marijuana” (Kuhn,Wilson, & Swartzwelder 5). Steroids can provide athletic edge to their users; although they come with disadvantages, and overall they have a menacing effect to the sport as well as the user. Athletes at a professional level need to be under heavy enforcement of the steroid ban to prevent the younger kids from following in their footsteps.…

Professional sports commissioners should enforce a drug testing policy for all athletes even if they have not been using performance enhancing drugs. There are many examples where athletes have taken advantage of these rules, like in 2005, 39 major league baseball players were suspended from baseball for using performance enhancing drugs during the season. There was also another case in 2013 when 13 major league baseball players got suspended from baseball from using performance enhancing drugs during the season. Varies adults argue whether or not there should be drug tests for the school athletes. Half of the parents and teachers agree that there should be drug tests because they mainly don't have a problem with the idea. Even though half of the adults agree with the idea there is still the other half of the adults which prefer not having the drug tests because they think its unnecessary or they prefer trusting the athletes more than the tests; however, the drug tests should be necessary in order to reduce the numbers of school athletes who use drugs. If the drug tests are added then that's another reason that the school athletes would never use drugs, if they want to play the sport, and that would help the school sports because…

Students simply trying to make a sports team or joining yearbook should not have to have their privacy invaded and should be able to fulfill their goals without the hassle of urinating in a cup. Is this really necessary? According to Newport Academy “Some parents are saying things have gone too far. They believe there are far better ways to keep kids off of drugs than providing mandatory drug test only for the kids involved in activities.” Also, Olympic stars and NFL football players have to get tested for drug usage; is it really necessary for twelve year olds?…

I think it is a good thing that people are testing high-school athletes for high performance drugs, like steroids and opioids. If they really need drugs to help them in sports, then they need to find a different sport to play. I think it is a good thing that high-school athletes are being tested because it doesn’t seem fair, if one student can take steriods and not get caught and a different athlete to do the same greatness as the guy on steroids. Taylor Hooton was in his prime of his high-school. He was popular, got the girls, very polite, and a very good athlete.…
