The concepts from Course 15 that I chose to enable me to become a better leader are idealized influence, trust, ethical behaviors, prevention area of the Discipline Model, and active listening. I see myself as currently being a process manager type leader. I use active management by exception for correcting my subordinates, and to reward their good behavior. I take an interest in the people that I work with, but one of my subordinates told me that the only reason I care about their life is due to how it reflects on me. To me, this is a failure on my part for not developing my idealized influence, and correctly applying active listening. My peers have told me that they perceive me as not being completely invested in the unit, or the mission. They may not feel like I am acting ethically regarding organizational values. This can lead to a breakdown of trust because they are not sure I have the same commitment to the organization that they do. I get results in my work center, and my subordinates are productive. I will exhibit unquestionable ethical behavior. My prevention area techniques maintain order throughout the work center, and I will have developed the absolute trust of all my coworkers. These are the attributes required for Idealized Influence. Through hard work and a sincere desire to enable my subordinates to achieve their goals, and those of the units I will get their commitment. My peers will see my commitment, and know that I am working together with them towards the same goal. Finally, my supervisors will have complete faith that I am promoting the organization's ideals.
