Descriptive Christmas House Research Paper

My night started on a chilly foggy December evening as my family and I made our way up the hill to grandpas house. As we climb higher and higher, I 'm strapped in ready for liftoff. As we crest the hill we are treated with a view like none other. Twinkling lights, the steady red light river, and the black abyss of the big blue, all greet me with the familiar sight of Christmas Eve. We walk through the bougainvillea jungle to the giant oak door. I excitedly knock then realizing how much that hurt. A big gnarled hand opens the door with ease. He welcomes us by giving me a strong rub on the head and hugs around. Im taken a back by the size of the interior. The ceiling is so high up that it makes me feel like an ant in the grand canyon. The smell …show more content…
I say high to everyone and then walk back through the Sasquatch sized door and walk down the hall to the living room. As I enter the room I 'm greeted by a sweet citrusy pine smell that makes the setting complete. I sit down facing the tree looking beyond into the black abyss and twinkling lights. I pull out my grandpas fly fishing book like I do every year. I read the cover, “ The Complete Angler” by James Prosek. Every year I can never seem to finish the book but I get closer every year. This time I skip ahead to where I stopped last year. James Waldon’s trip through the Scottish country side looking for a rare species of native trout. The book is way ahead of my level but my level of fishing knowledge is there to understand most of it. As I struggle to read through the pages. I 'm SO EXCITED because out of all this time its been about his trip and not fishing but now he 's finally on the river. As I 'm reading more and more intently, I am interrupted again by a big gnarled hand on my head saying, “have you gotten to the fishing part yet bud?” “Yes!” I respond. He asks if he can read to me. Without even thinking I say …show more content…
It’s pea soup outside as Jared and I put our rods and backpacks into my car. The dawn light is barely breaking the horizon. We drive to our secret lake in acres of avocado groves. We park and turn on our head lamps and hop the fence. As we hike through 2 miles of avocado groves the sweet smell of ripe fruit enhances the clean crisp morning air filling us with adrenaline and pure stoke. As we crest the hill we look down on our city covered in thick fog. The sun breaks the horizon filling the world with warm morning light. As we reach the lake the sound of frogs and waterfowl echo through the morning air. We fish for a solid 4 hours catching a total of 20 fish. As we move spots the sound of a truck stops us in our tracks we turn around to see a green and yellow lights engulfed in dust speeding towards us. My friend runs I put down my rod and wait for the punishment. For some reason I didn 't run. As he pulls up I 'm engulfed in his dust. He takes my stuff and puts me against the car. 40 minutes later 2 cops come and talk to me and the ranger. The cop then takes my handcuffs off, lets me grab my stuff, and leave. To this day I read Joe and Me twice a year and I have lost count of how many times I 've read it. I always read James’ and my grandfather’s notes. Little did I know I have subconsciously almost lived Joe and Me. There is a lot of common area, to much to go into detail, but the fact is and why I wrote this essay is because not only did I find my

Many people believe that Eastern Oregon is void of beauty. The mountains are bare and the air is dry. However, if these folks would follow me to the Snake River for a fishing trip, I think they’d change their minds. If they were to join me on the river, they’d hear the sound of motor boats traveling up the water, and they’d smell the engine exhaust and hear the laughter of the fishermen.…

The neighborhood was noiseless, and the sky was pitch black, for there had been no moon on that summer morning in June. My mother and father started our car and waited for Sofia,my sister, sean ,my friend, and me to get inside. It was time to leave our dull suburban home in San Jose, and drive to the beloved National Park, Yosemite, to hike Half Dome. On the car ride there I had slept, but awoke right when we had gotten into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Looking outside of the window and noticing all of the evergreen trees was surreal for me, as I rolled down my window a strong smell of pine and fresh air poured into the car.…

My heart broke, and I let out a boisterous groan as the last string trimmer malfunctioned and the weedwhacker slowly churned to a stop. I had been consumed by my thoughts of planning my senior speech, crafting my life plan of becoming a nurse anesthetist, and figuring out what I wanted to eat for breakfast to notice that I was walking so rapidly that I had outworked the machine. It was a humid Sunday morning, the grass was still wet with morning dew when I had abruptly woken up and tied on my decrepit, battered, newly turned green sneakers. As I began the trek to my neighbor’s house the smell of wet grass prudently wafted into my nose. With the exception of my dad there is an evident lack of testosterone in the house with just my mom, twin sister, and I.…

We would separate the presents and try to figure out what was inside each one, while we waited for our parents to get up.…

The ray of light from the flashlight casts a luminescent glow on the ground, allowing us to keep a watchful eye on where we are stepping. As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. We weave our way through the woods trying to avoid puddles of unfrozen water, and logs that are in the way of the trails we have made. Finally, I spot the…
