“I am sick of your smart mouth Nick. If you don’t want to come to the party with me then stay home. I’m sorry I even asked. I’m going to work.” Dani slammed the front door to the tiny apartment they barely gathered the money to pay for this month. “I didn’t fucking say…” Nick sighed, letting his voice drop out of a yell as to not alarm the neighbors. Again. Nick made his way toward their sorry excuse of a master bedroom, past the little dining table that was accompanied by two dark wooden chairs. Nick picked up the little accent pillows that Dani insisted on spreading across their bed. “Stupid decorative pillows,” he mumbled to himself. Nick laid down the smaller blue lace pillows against the medium green ones, which leaned against the large blue and white frilly lace ones that they slept on. …show more content…
That beautiful Friday afternoon that roughly took place two years ago now seemed like a goal too farfetched to reach anymore. Memories of brighter times raced through Nick’s head while he pulled out of the tiny parking lot that was home to a few other cars. The calming click-click-click of his left turn signal began while he waited to merge into light traffic. Nick’s slow moving job at the hardware store was left in the distance as he traveled towards the local flower shop on Mary's Ave. Nick waited for what seemed like an eternity at a red light across from the shop, finally the traffic light turned to a welcoming green. The small white work truck in front of him began to pick up speed and move into the road. Out of Nick’s peripheral vision a black van charged into the road ahead of them. In a panicked flight or fight moment, frozen by fear, Nick neglected to slam on his breaks. Poorly tied down metal rods protruding from the truck's bed broke into the protective glass of the driver side windshield due to the impact of Nick’s little blue car meeting the rusted back of the
