As a citizen of the Commonwealth of Virginia and ADHA member, I have the right to express my opinion and support unsettled legislation. Moreover, I can contact my Senator or Delegate and provide the information needed to persuade them to support a particular issue before the legislature takes action on it. In addition, becoming a member of VDHA and paying my membership fees, volunteering at dental health fair, and supporting community based programs will all help reach these goals. As a dental hygienist I am committed to patient care and public health through all means, including public education and other services.

I have had the profession of being a dental hygienist picked out since freshman year. Recently I have explored colleges that offering the right type of schooling and narrowed it down to two. Ferris State University is one of them, and Grand Rapids Community College is the other. The reason I choose Ferris is because the wait to enter into the dental program at GRCC is a minimum of 2 years. Also, Ferris offers both an associate and bachelor degree in dental hygiene, where GRCC only has associate.…

The best interpretation of a dental hygienist that I can conceive is a professional whose main job is to teach their clients the essential oral hygiene skills and provide dental care in order for the client to maintain their overall oral health. Among the various responsibilities performed for the client to insure their health and safety includes making sure, we, as dental hygienists first do not harm to the patient by contaminating with pathogens that could have easily been disposed of by simply following the standard rules of infection control. As stated by Ester Wilkins “Dental healthcare personnel have a professional obligation to serve all patients with comprehensive oral care, including patients with known or unknown communicable diseases.…

Many students have unique incentives for choosing their major while others are rather straight forward. I believe mine is a combination of the two. Ever since I was young, I demonstrated an interest in the dental field. Teeth were always the very first thing I noticed about a person, including myself. When my adult teeth started to come in, there was so much overcrowding that my canine teeth were growing in my upper gums.…

Based off of the dental hygiene diagnosis and the plaque control evaluation, NSPT was indicated for this patient. NSPT is also referred to as periodontal debridement (PD) or scaling and root planning (SRP). All of these procedures are classified using the dental code 4341 or 4342. You will hear these terms used interchangeably throughout the rest of this paper. According to Gehrig and Willmann, “Nonsurgical periodontal therapy is a term used to describe the many non-surgical steps used to eliminate inflammation in the periodontium of a patient with periodontal disease in an attempt to return the periodontium to a healthy state that can then be maintained by a combination of both professional care and patient self-care” (perio book pg371).…
