According to the Outlook Occupational Handbook (OOH), New Mexico is rated second in nation for its high concentration of dentistry-related jobs. OOH also state that the employment of dentists is expected to increase by 18% from 2014 to 2024; the rate of dentist-related job opportunities is on average growing at a faster rate than other occupations. This year alone, the NMDL averages around 1,600 job openings in New Mexico. When the number of job openings are compared to the number of dentists in practice, the NMDL expect an almost zero experience requirement for new dentists seeking jobs as there are only a few dentists (approximately 770) already in the workforce by comparison.
