Capital Punishment is the legal process where an individual is killed by state as a form of punishment due to committing a certain crime. The decree spelled out by judicially to punish an individual in such a manner is referred to as death sentence. The actual enforcement is referred as execution. The crimes that lead to death sentences are referred to as capital offences. The term capital is an ancient Latin word that referred to the head. Capital punishments have been applied in the past by various communities to punish criminals due to religious or political dissidents. Additionally researchers have identified that capital sentences take as long as ten years before the final judgment is reached. Running a prison is cheaper since it has a clear objective that is to take care of the prisoner’s welfare and involve them in various activities. Death sentence does not have a clear ending since the same case can be altered through application of life imprisonment. This increases costs. On the other hand it is a clear argument that in case of capital punishment a state cannot undertake a budget to account for the trial since the trial is bound to change at any moment incurring more costs but in case of prison warehouse one can budget for the future therefore reducing wastage of funds.
