The overall goal of a nursing curriculum plan is to meet the desired educational outcomes that will prepare graduates to achieve professional practice standards that improve the health and well-being of populations in service to society (Billings & Halstead, 2016). In continuation, the second part of the course project outlines the Southeast region curriculum plan. The staff development program will focus on educating Tampa General Hospital (TGH) nurses on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. The curriculum should provide an outline of clear objectives, with an expected timeline, and collaborative evidence to encourage reflection, build relationships, and show clear transferability to reality (Candela, 2016). The TGH nurses are the “heart and soul of HCAPHS success”; hence, the need for the development of improving HCAPHS curriculum at this setting (Studer, Robinson, & Cook, 2010).
Organizational Framework
The program’s organizational framework acts as the logical order for the delivery of the program (Keating, 2015). TGH Nursing Practice Model (see Appendix A) will be used as the organizational framework that is focused on patient-centered care through interdisciplinary partnerships, professional rapport, exemplary professional practice, effective communication, professional advancement and behavior, and collaborative decision-making (TGH, 2016).

The patient’s perception of the quality of care holding greater value and attention than ever (Chen, Koren, Munroe, & Yao, 2014). Furthermore, it is the program’s goal to show TGH nurses that the quality of the nursing care that the patients received in the hospital reflects the perceptions of their overall hospital experience (Kennedy, Craig, Wetsel, Reimels, & Wright, 2013).
Curriculum Components & Alignment
The program curriculum development reflects the specific expectations or competencies that need to be achieved upon completion of the program (Keating, 2015). The proposed curriculum will align with the caring, accountability, and respect values through effective communication and patient advocacy using the TGH patient-centered model of care.
The series of five training programs will utilize group participation, videos, power point presentations, and introductions to new communication tools. Each program will have an overall goal or purpose and will align with the adult learning theory. Employing a multifaceted education program for the improvement in communicating with patients may result in an overall improvement in the perceived care that is being delivered (see Appendix
