Fortunately I always stayed away from trouble, and did not allow peer pressure to get the best of me. Senior year at Bellflower High School I decided to try out for the basketball team. Anger Freshman year in High School I joined the Porterville High School frosh-off basketball team. I wasn't the best one on the team, but I did my part. I was always intimidated by all the other girls on the team, this intimidation was controlling me, and it wasn't allowing me to be the person, and player I truly was. I was never loud, rough, nor did I ever play dirty so it came as a big surprise when I got into a fight with another player. It was against our rivals the Moanche High School girls basketball team, so the game was already intense, I remember the situation as if it was yesterday, I was playing defense grading this girl and all through out the night she was playing dirty, elbowing me every chance she got.…

Every year on Valentine’s Day, my school hosts something we call the “Civility Assembly”. In the afternoon, the entire school is called to the auditorium, and are presented with an unscripted, straight-from-the-heart presentation from the staff. This year, the theme was “Home”. A former Wahconah graduate who entered the marines gave a speech about the value of home to him and the results of a staff interview as to “Why Wahconah is Home to Me” was presented, among other things. While there were definitely some generic answers, many of the answers really hit home with me, like “I get to see my best self reflected in each of your eyes everyday.…

The procedure itself is what I initially feared. I knew the road to recovery would not be an easy one, but I would have never imagined the recovery process would be so emotionally and physically draining. My scar story “Your setbacks are the platforms for your comeback” everyone at some moment in their life has a setback, but it’s the way we go about this setback that defines you as a person. This quote demonstrates the difficulties I had to face and overcome last year in having to sit on the sidelines watching my team and how I used this injury as motivation and a learning experience to help me return to the game of basketball stronger and better than ever, this is my scar story. My story began last year in march it was the very first game of basketball for the season and for me it was just another ordinary routine game of basketball, I taped my ankles like normal, warmed up like normal and played like normal little did I know that this ordinary game or basketball would change my outlook and values in life so dramatically. It was the fourth quarter of the game and my team were down by at least ten points, in desperate need of points I attacked the basket even with multiple defenders in front of me in hope that one of the defenders would foul me.…

I gathered with terrible friends, that were only for me when they needed something, or for chilling out, but they were not true friends. Everyone constantly told me that they talked about me behind my back and I never cared about that because hanging out with them made me “popular”. They were the ones in charged of making all the rumors and gossiping about me, and that was what made people hate me. All the bad stuff that happened to me, was, in some way, my fault for making bad decisions towards the people who I was hanging with and the kind of relationships I was standing. Sometimes we search the negative experiences that happens in our lives, but it's very important to learn from every single experience in life, and make what we learn memorable, so that we can be better in…
