How do I become a cosmetologist? To become a cosmetologist I will need to get a hair cutting license and take a training program like trade school or get an apprenticeship. I will have to also take a series of tests, verbally and physically. I am going to talk about my high school options, how to get a license, and why I want to take business in college.

To begin my career in high school, I am open to going to Butler Tech’s cosmetology program; in 11th grade. To graduate high school I will need a highschool diploma or a GED. Once I graduate high school, I need to get a license. “To get a license I will have to take tests and have to undergo 1,500- 3,000 hours of training to qualify for a license” (Chron). This quote shows, that the more training the better. “The steps to get a license are, a written exam over sanitation rules, chemical usage, hair styling techniques, the state laws and sometimes an oral examination” (Education Requirements to become a cosmetologist). This quote shows, the process I will have to take to get my license and to become a cosmetologist. I won’t get a license right away. I will have to take state board exams. I will have to renew my license every year or two.

Then once I’ve graduated, I can go to college and take business classes. Since I want to own my own salon. In college, I can take up to 2-4 years of business school on entrepreneurship and financing. Some skills the job requires are public speaking and knowledge. This job is a creative career and most education work is hands
