Some of the content of this speech touches on the sensitive topics of sexual and gun related violence. If you were given the chance to defend yourself against an attacker would you? Amanda Collins, a student of the University of Nevada, was not given the chance when “her attacker, James Biela… put a gun to her head, pulled her to the asphalt and raped her” (Summers n.pag). Amanda’s “right to say ‘no’ was taken away from [her]”; she never had the opportunity to defend herself. Although she could have used her concealed carry permit, allowing her to legally carry a concealed weapon in public, she followed the law and left her gun off campus, which stopped her from being able to defend herself. Therefore, Georgia state legislature should allow the presence of weapons on college campuses because this presents the opportunity for individuals like Amanda Collins with concealed carry permits to prevent on campus crime, such as sexual and gun related violence. In Day's article "Concealed Weapons Should Be Allowed on College Campuses" he states that "mass public shootings almost exclusively occur in public places where concealed weapons are banned" (Day n.pag).
