The Pros And Cons Of Open Carry Law

When looking at the people that surround you in your everyday life and routine, do you imagine them carrying a gun freely at all times? In the recent years, US citizens, as well as the government, have decided to bring up the topic of gun laws and protection, specifically the Open Carry law, in which the people of a state have the right to freely carry a firearm in public. One of the main reasons this specific topic was brought up is due to the increase of gun violence throughout the years of 2015 to 2017. According to the Kim Soffen, a journalist from the Washington Post, "...Mass shootings are up as well. According to Mother Jones' mass shooting database, year to date, 58 people have been killed this way, nearly five times more than the same period last year,"(Soffen). Under the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution, it constructs that " ‘A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,'"(law.cornell.edu). By having the right to "bear arms," the United States, including California, have the right to carry a gun with them whenever they are feeling that they are in danger in relation to gun violence such as mass shootings or even gun shootings. Are we really risking the people's lives, just for a right we as the people can't even seem to have in the state of California?
