Should Concealed Weapons Be Allowed In Schools

S.B. No. 11 is an act that was made into law that pertains to the “carrying of handguns on the campuses of and certain other locations associated with institutions of higher education. However, the institution of higher education in this state may establish rules, regulations, or other provisions concerning the storage of hand guns in dormitories or other residential facilities” and the president of the institution “may establish reasonable rules, regulations, or other provisions regarding the carrying of concealed hand guns by license holders on the campus of the institution”. In layman's terms, any person with a concealed weapons permit may bring a concealed weapon to their college campus. Also, the president of the campus can set up rules and regulations for the concealed weapons as long as they don't establish any rules that will ban the weapons.
As of January 1st 2016, staff, students, and faculty on college campuses in Texas were given the right to carry concealed weapons with a concealed weapons permit. This has sparked controversy on campuses across Texas and has led to mass protests by students who disagree with this. Main arguments for and against S.B. Students for Gun Free Schools states that students would not feel safe knowing that some students in their classroom are carrying a loaded weapon and therefore deter their education. In addition, during debates, those with strong opinions on certain issues will hesitate to express them in fear that a classmate might disagree and retaliate by shooting. Students for Concealed Carry counter argues that no one would be able to tell who has a concealed weapon and therefore would not be afraid.
