The two different settings in this book is Southern Sudan and the United States. A difference between the two settings is that one setting takes place from 1985, and the other setting takes place in 2008. I would describe Nya and Salva as very committed, dedicating, and loving. They both were determined to reach what they wanted/their goal. For example, in the beginning of the book, Salva kept on walking, even when he lost hope of a chance that he would find his family. 8. What do we learn about the history between the Nuer tribe and the Dinka tribe? What is the cause of their problems? At the end of the book, how does Salva work to repair the relationship?
We learn that the history between the Nuer tribe and the Dinka tribe isn’t that great. They have a bad relationship with eachother. They have a bad relationship because the Nuer men killed Uncle and stole all the items the travelers had. They fought over scarce water. Salva offered wells for the Nuer and Dinka tribes, which surprised Nya. Salva offered cleaned water for wells because he works to repair the relationship between the two tribe by offering clean water because that’s the main topic that kept the tribes
